Lakeland, Fla. – Lynn University’s women’s tennis team completed play on the second day of the USTA/ITA South Regional Tournament.  Val Confalonieri is the lone member of the Fighting Knights to reach the semifinals in singles play while Confalonieri and Ioana Ivan and Andrea Berkova and Kim Przeslowski advanced to the semifinals in doubles.

The top-ranked doubles tandem, Confalonieri and Ioana had a tense match-up against Adrianna Daszkiewicz and Emily Singleton of Saint Leo but came away with an 8-6 victory.  Berkova and Przeslowski had an easier time with Nova Southeastern’s Charlotte Cote and Alex Johnansson, leaving the court with an 8-4 win.

Wins by the Fighting Knights in doubles will set up an all Lynn final.

Confalonieri made quick work of her opponent, Ashley Loft of Rollins, winning 6-0, 6-1 and later romped past Sabine Goge of Florida Southern 6-2, 6-1.  Ivan continued her dominance over Singleton in singles play, outlasting the Lion’s player 6-1, 6-0 to reach the quarterfinals where she fell to Olivia Matuszak of Barry 2-6, 1-6.  

Berkova dropped out of the main bracket, dropping a hard-fought contest against Giovana Patitucci of West Florida.  The Jihlava, Czech Republic, product fell 7-5, 6-3 to the regional rival.  Przeslowski, though moved into the semifinals of the consolation bracket following a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Christie Nunnemann.
