BOCA RATON, Fla. - For the second time this season Lynn University’s volleyball team and Barry played in a five set thriller with the Fighting Knights on the wrong side of a 25-22, 16-25, 30-28, 25-27, 20-18 Sunshine State Conference battle. It was a career night for two Knights as Brianna Cox had a career-high 21 kills and Abbey Brokop had a career best 57 assists. With the loss Lynn falls to 14-12 and 4-10 in the SSC while Barry improves to 15-13 and 8-6.

A rough start for the Fighting Knights allowed the Buccaneers to take the early 10-5 lead in the opening set. Lynn would recover and tie up the score 14-14 to keep it close until the very end when the Fighting Knights gave up four of the last six points for the 25-22 loss. Cox and Angie Caple had three kills and a solo block a-piece.

Lynn dominated the second set with a .286 hit percentage and three service aces to even the match. Caple had four kills in the set while Brokop had nine assists, while adding a service ace, and a kill as well.

The third set was the first of three straight that would go into extra-points. Lynn took its biggest lead of the set early with a score of 5-1. Both sides had match-highs in hitting percentage with Lynn having the advantage .326 to .314. The Fighting Knights had four set points but were unable to capitalize. Cox had eight kills and two blocks in the set while Brittany Brown, returning from a concussion, had two kills and three blocks.

Down 1-2 Lynn took a crucial fourth set into extra points to force a fifth set. It took the Fighting Knights three set points before securing the win. Neither team saw a significant lead in the set, but with the help of Lizzy Raffa and her five kills the Blue & White were able to tie up the match.

Barry started the fifth set strong scoring the first four points unanswered by Lynn. LU then came back with an 8-4 run to tie the game at 8-8. The remainder of the set went back and forth until Barry scored two straight points to end the match 20-18.

The Fighting Knights wrap up the 2012 campaign with a pair of home matches against Florida Tech on  November 16, at 7 pm and Rollins College on November 17, at 4 pm.
