Volleyball Falls to Eckerd on the road
St. Petersburg, Fla.- The Lynn University volleyball team lost to Eckerd 3-1. Liga Strautniece had her second-straight double-double with 13 kills and 16 digs, joining Marissa Tandron who also had a double-double with 41 assists and 10 digs. With the loss Lynn falls to 16-11, 3-6 in Sunshine State Conference play.
Lynn started the evening strong scoring a game-high 16 kills in the first set. Trailing late 23-20, Caple recorded back to back kills to bring the Fighting Knights within one; however Lynn dropped the opener 26-24. Strautniece finished the set with five kills and a service ace while also leading the squad with three digs. In a similar fashion to the previous set the Tritons bested the Fighting Knights with an identical 26-24 score to go down 2-0. Caple had a team-high six kills on a .500 clip while Nikki Haben had a pair of service aces and three digs.
Hitting a match-high .256 Lynn managed to cut the deficit to 2-1 with a 25-19 victory. Tandron had a match-high 14 assists and Strautniece paced the defense with nine digs. The Fighting Knights finished the set with 10 blocks.
Eckerd ended the contest with a 25-17 score in the final set. Haben and Katie Knight combined for 14 digs with eight and six respectively.
Strautniece led three Fighting Knights in double-digit kills with Caple and Knight who had 13 and 12. Tandron had 41 assists to lead both squads while Haben, Strautniece, Knight, Mandy McIntosh and Tandron all had double-digit digs.
