West Palm Beach, Fla.- The Lynn University volleyball team lost to Palm Beach Atlantic, 3-0 (23-25, 19-25, 16-25), on Tuesday night. The Fighting Knights offense was led by senior Angie Caple who recorded a team-high 10 kills on 21 attempts for a .381 hitting percentage. Marissa Tandron recorded 18 assists while junior Nikki Haben added 10 digs.
A back-and-forth battle from the start in the first set, Lynn took a slight lead over the Sailfish when a Sara Aloisio kill gave the Blue and White a 16-13 edge. PBA responded with a 4-0 to edge LU by one at 16-17. A kill by Liga Strautniece evened the score at 17-all and an attack error by Palm Beach Atlantic’s Katie Ballantyne would give Lynn their final lead of the game. The Sailfish ended on a 6-1 run to take the 1-0 lead in the non-conference match.
The second set started off similar to the first with Lynn trailing by 3, but seven consecutive points for PBA was all the Sailfish would need to take the 2-0 lead after a 25-19 victory over Lynn. Lynn hit .120 as a team while PBA slightly edged them with a .148 clip.
Down by two games Lynn picked up momentum for the third set, immediately taking a 2-0 lead. The lead would change multiple times before Palm Beach Atlantic went on a 9-3 run to emerge victorious with a 25-16 final.
Faith Rohn had a game-high 18 kills for PBA and a .389 clip while Becca Acevedo recorded 33 assists. The Sailfish hit .292 as a team while LU had a .213 clip.
The Blue and White (3-2) will host the annual Courtyard by Marriot Boca Raton Invitation September 13-14 at the de Hoernle Sports & Cultural Center on the Lynn University campus.
