Volleyball Falls to Nationally-Ranked Tampa
Tampa, Fla. – The Lynn University volleyball team’s final road trip of the season ended on a sour note with a straight-set loss to seventh-ranked Tampa 25-13, 25-19. 25-11. Three Fighting Knights ended the match with six kills while Mandy McIntosh had a team-high 19 assists. Lynn drops to 14-11 overall and 4-9 in the Sunshine State Conference while Tampa improves to 25-3 and 14-0 in the SSC.
A slow start doomed the Blue & White in the first set as nine errors were too much to overcome. Dugan led the defense with six digs and tied with Brokop with two assists.
Set two continued the trend of the previous set. A 6-0 start for Tampa was all it took to put Lynn down 2-0 in the match. The Fighting Knights were able to bring the deficit to within five, 24-19, after a block assist from Brianna Cox and McIntosh but the Spartans closed out the match on the next kill attempt. Lynn recorded three service aces from Dugan and seniors Michelle Jordan and Darien Weppner. Along with her block assisted, McIntosh totaled 11 assists.
For the third straight set the Fighting Knights gave up costly early points, allowing a 4-0 start for the Spartans. Lynn shrunk the lead to two, 6-4, after a Tampa error but a 7-1 run ended any comeback hopes for the Blue & White.
Cox had a solo block and block assist in the match and Jordan had nine digs.
