Odom Tabbed SSC Defensive Player of the Week

Melbourne, Fla. – Lauren Odom of the Lynn University volleyball team has been named the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. It is the first weekly conference accolade for the freshman and the first of the season for the volleyball program.

Odom led the Lynn front row this week as the Fighting Knights picked up two Sunshine State Conference victories on the road. She finished with a team-high 19 blocks, including two of the team's three solo blocks, for an average of 1.36 per set. She also put away 18 kills at a .200 hitting clip.

In a 3-2 win over Nova Southeastern, Odom tallied a team-high six blocks along with seven kills. She followed it up with six blocks and five kills at a team-high .444 hitting percentage in a 3-1 setback at Embry-Riddle. The Tampa, Fla. product closed out the week with another strong defensive performance at the net with a team-high seven blocks (one solo) as the Fighting Knights rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Florida Tech.

Odom leads the squad with 1.08 blocks per set on the year, ranking fifth in the conference. Lynn sits at 8-14 overall in 2017 and 6-10 in SSC play.
